| Dr. David Pearson is recognized as the driving
force behind the realization of Science North. He was appointed
Science North Project Director in May 1980 and assumed the role
of director from 1982 until the fall of 1985. Dr. Pearson was
an Associate Professor of Geology at Laurentian University when
he was recommended for the job by the Director General of the
Ontario Science Centre, Dr. J. Tuzo Wilson. Dr. Wilson and many
others, had been impressed by Dr. Pearson's outstanding public
interpretation of geology in a 1975 TV Ontario series, "Understanding
the Earth". His inspiration and legacy is the scientific
style of Science North, the personal interaction that is the
key to Science North's public interpretation of science. Dr.
Pearson has returned to the faculty of Geology at Laurentian
University, but has remained active at Science North as Associate
Director. |

Le Dr David Pearson est reconnu comme le premier
responsable de la mise en oeuvre du projet de Science Nord.
Il fut nommé directeur du projet en mai 1980 et il a
été professeur agrégé de géologie
à l'Université Laurentienne lorsque le directeur
général du centre des sciences de l'Ontario, le
Dr J Tuzo Wilson, le présenta comme candidat au poste
de directeur de Science Nord. Le Dr Wilson et plusieurs autres
observateurs avaient été frappés par l'efficacité
du Dr Pearson comme communicateur scientifique dans le cadre
de la série de TVOntario, "Understanding the Earth".
Son enthousiasme et sa vision des sciences se reflètent
dans la manière dont Science Nord présente le
domaine des sciences au public. Le Dr Pearson est maintenant
de retour au département de géologie de l'Université
mais il continue de jouer un rôle important auprès
